Almost but not quite...

This megapack needs two more pieces to be complete: "Fuzzy Sapiens", and "Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen". I would then give bonus points if it included "When in the Course..."
Other than these glaring omissions, this is a good collection of Pipers work, arranged in chronological order of publication.

Cosmic Computer/Space Viking

While these aren't the only stories here, I believe these are some of his best. I first read Cosmic Computer when it was still called Junk Planet. The planet was armed by the Federation for a major war that then collapsed. Rather than haul away all the equipment for the war, they went off and left it. The inhabitants of the planet have a legend of a huge computer used to answer all questions. A small group of the people want to rediscover it and use it to solve all their problems. They send a young man to Earth to study how to program it. While there he learns it never existed but does discover many of the locations of the materials left. He comes up with a plan to revitalize the planet. But when he returns he finds that - perhaps - the story of the computer is true. Space Viking is a story of a small group of people who depend upon raiding other worlds to survive. One man is against this, wanting to build themselves - until his wife was murdered at their wedding. Swearing vengence, he becomes a Viking himself to find the murderer. But in space it isn't possible to follow someone to find them. You must intercept. So ... how do you manage to find someone who might be clear across the galaxy? It was nice to rediscover these stories now.

Piper's Magic continues.

I'm enjoying reading many short stories and novellas. They are not in order and many of the stories could be organized into groupings better. But the stories are great and it's just a shame that Piper never realized how good he was in his lifetime.
